Recreational Activities

These recreational courses are aimed at young people between 9 and 17 years of age, and provide a chance to have some diversion while learning the basic techniques of circus arts. The program is also designed to help develop their coordination, concentration and motor skills.

All courses are held in the National Circus School studios. Participants have access to state-of-the-art equipment used by professionals. The courses are offered 2 hours per week.

 

Teaching Approach

The School primarily emphasizes the lighter side of these activities. The courses are presented in a spirit of play; students are able to have fun while learning various circus disciplines and techniques. At every step they are guided and encouraged by a team of professional instructors selected for their pedagogic and technical expertise.

Calendar Fall 2010

Two hours per week in duration, the courses are offered on Saturdays and Sundays, over an 11-week period beginning September 11 and ending November 28, 2010 with the exception of September 25 and 26 (closed).

The School is located in its new headquarters at 8181 2nd Avenue, near Jarry Street, in the heart of Tohu, the Cité des arts du Cirque, in Montreal's Saint-Michel district.

 

Course Selection and Schedule

All activities are divided into three course categories. Each class is two hours in length, during which a specific technique is learned. Courses are limited to 40 students.

  • Beginner: Introduction to acrobatic technique, balancing and manipulation.

    When? Saturdays from 9 to 11 a.m. or 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or Sundays from
    9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

  • Advanced: Introduction to more advanced level of acrobatics, balancing and manipulation.
    * To be admitted, the student must have been enrolled previously in at least 3 consecutive sessions or have demonstrated the requisite aptitude.

    When? Saturdays from 9 to 11 a.m. or Sundays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

  • Aerials: Introduction devoted exclusively to aerial techniques.

    When? Saturdays from 2 to 4 p.m. or Sundays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Admission Requirements

a) Be between 9 and 17 years of age;

b) Complete the registration form and attach payment.

Two cheques - equal payment option - the first dated September 11, 2010 and the second October 9, 2010, to the order of the National Circus School;
or   
Payment by credit card, Visa, Mastercard (complete the section reserved for this purpose on the registration form).

* Registration is limited. Students will be accepted in the order in which registration forms are received, until all available places in each group are filled
