To Train and Create

Since its inception in 1981, the National Circus School has welcomed individual professional circus artists as well as emerging circus collectives and companies who seek space appropriate to the practice of their art.

Today, with expanded dedicated spaces and facilities that are among the best in the world, the National Circus School is in an excellent position to make its facilities and equipment more accessible to circus arts professionals.

The non-profit organization TOHU, the Cité des arts du cirque (City of Circus Arts), will coordinate these Services for Professionals provided at the National Circus School.

The TOHU, Cité des arts du cirque, project has established one of the most important concentrations of circus infrastructure and activities in the world. The aim is to provide definitive support to professional artists, collectives and companies in the sector for the practice and development of circus arts.

TOHU also oversees use of one of the National Circus School's studios called the Studio de création, placing it at the disposal of circus arts professionals to undertake research and creative exploration leading to the realization and expression of an artistic work.

In offering these services, TOHU aims to accomplish the following in conformance with its mission:

° Identify and support artistic innovation with an aim to stimulating greater diversity in both the aesthetics and the offering of circus arts shows;

° Encourage research and development of new forms of circus expression;

° Improve creative conditions for circus artists;

° Enable professional artists to have access to high-calibre infrastructures and specialized equipment for training personnel in the wide diversity of circus arts disciplines;

° Support the holding of recruitment, production or promotion activities related to the professional development of circus arts artists, collectives and companies.
